Christmas Recycling

Christmas is a time for feasting and gift giving. However, these wonderful activities  have the side effect of generating lots more waste. Fortunately, much of this can be recycled. Gifts, including bottles of wine, tins of biscuits, chocolate boxes, mince pie cases and most Christmas cards and non-foil wrapping paper can all be recycled.

Dudley Council collects glass, metal, paper, card and plastics as part of its fortnightly recycling collection.

As well as the standard glass bottles, glass jars and jar lids, drinks cans, food cans, plastic drink, milk, detergent and toiletry bottles, newspaper and cardboard, aerosols, yoghurt pots, margarine tubs, food trays and food punnets, residents are asked to think about what else they can recycle from their Christmas festivities.

This includes clean aluminium foil and foil trays, plastic chocolate tubs, chocolate boxes, squirty cream aerosols, Christmas cards (without glitter), envelopes, cardboard boxes and packaging minus any excess tape, non-foil wrapping paper as long as it passes the scrunch test (scrunch it up and if it doesn’t bounce back it’s paper and safe to recycle).

The council does not recycle, plastic film, plastic bags or plastic toys at this moment in time, so please pop these in your black bin.

Residents are reminded to rinse out items first and squash plastics and cans to save space in their bags and on our vehicles.
